»Fremd bin ich eingezogen, fremd zieh ich wieder aus«
Sibylle Hoffmann & Hansgeorg Jeggle
Based on the song cycle “Winterreise” by Franz Schubert, the pictures by Hansgeorg Jeggle and Sibylle Hoffmann are about a photographic search for traces of the self, of one’s own state of being in the world. At the same time, it is also a search for the other, the stranger in this world that suddenly crosses a border.
Hansgeorg Jeggle’s body images were created during a stay at the “Sommerakademie Salzburg” in Michael Schmidt’s class.
Sibylle Hoffmann’s pictures show her personal memories and her confrontation with her friend’s sudden disappearance.
The Polaroid tableaus shown in the exhibition entitled “Winterreise” are a joint work, photographed at the same time, on joint journeys: portraits, self-portraits and artifacts. You can read it as a “travel diary” and perceive different moods and feelings in the different tableaus. Each tableau contains images from both authors in a varying, unspecified number.
Sibylle Hoffmann lives and works as a freelance artist in Berlin. Since 1986 she has been working as a lecturer in photography at the Photocentrum of the Gilberto-Bosques-Volkshochschule Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. The focus of her teaching activities are project courses with accompanying exhibition or book presentations.
Hansgeorg Jeggle was a student at the “Workshop for Photography” in Berlin-Kreuzberg from 1982. With the camera he sought to get closer to himself – like a search for his own identity. During his first visit to a summer academy in Salzburg with Michael Schmidt in 1988, he found his big topic: “Self-portraits and body images”.
In Anlehnung an den Liederzyklus ” Winterreise” von Franz Schubert, geht es in den Bildern von Hansgeorg Jeggle und Sibylle Hoffmann um eine fotografische Spurensuche nach dem Ich, der eigenen Befindlichkeit in der Welt. Gleichzeitig ist es auch eine Suche nach dem Anderen, dem Fremden in dieser Welt, die plötzlich eine Grenze überschreitet.
Die Körperbilder von Hansgeorg Jeggle sind während eines Aufenthalts bei der “Sommerakademie Salzburg” in der Klasse von Michael Schmidt entstanden.
Die Bilder von Sibylle Hoffmann zeigen ihre persönlichen Erinnerungen und ihre Auseinandersetzung mit dem plötzlichen Verschwinden des Freundes.
In der Ausstellung gezeigte Polaroid-Tableaus mit dem Titel “Winterreise” sind eine gemeinsame Arbeit, zur gleichen Zeit fotografiert, auf gemeinsamen Reisen: Portraits, Selbstportraits und Artefakte. Man kann sie als “Reisetagebuch” lesen und unterschiedliche Stimmungen und Empfindungen in den verschiedenen Tableaus wahrnehmen. Jedes Tableau enthält Bilder von beiden Autoren in wechselnder, nicht festgelegter Anzahl.
Sibylle Hoffmann lebt und arbeitet als freischaffende Künstlerin in Berlin. Seit 1986 ist sie als Dozentin für Photographie am Photocentrum der Gilberto-Bosques-Volkshochschule Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg tätig. Schwerpunkt ihrer Lehrtätigkeit sind Projektkurse mit begleitender Ausstellungs- oder Buchpräsentation.
Hansgeorg Jeggle war ab 1982 Schüler an der „Werkstatt für Fotografie“ in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Mit der Kamera suchte er die Annäherung an sich – wie eine Suche nach der eigenen Identität. Während seines ersten Besuches einer Sommerakademie in Salzburg bei Michael Schmidt 1988 fand er dafür sein großes Thema: „Selbstportraits und Körperbilder“.
