»A Field of Blue is Not a Sky« is an exhibition of works by the students of the Limited-Residency MFA in Photography Program at the University of Hartford, a program developed and directed by Robert Lyons for the engaged professional investigating art, documentary practice, and the photo-based book. Each of the twelve participating artists traverses disparate parts of the globe, offering figurative and subversive responses to diverse landscapes and the people who occupy them. The lens-based works, which range stylistically and technically, are imbued with a visual poetics that suggests photography is not an act of seeing but of showing, not an act of imaging but of imagining.

>»A Field of Blue is Not a Sky« ist eine Ausstellung von Werken der Student*innen des “Limited-Residency MFA in Photography” Programms an der University of Hartford, einem von Robert Lyons entwickeltem und geleitetem Programm für engagierte Fachleute, die sich mit Kunst, dokumentarischer Praxis und dem fotobasierten Buch befassen. Jede/r der zwölf teilnehmenden Künstler*innen bereist unterschiedliche Teile der Welt und bietet figurative und subversive Antworten auf verschiedene Landschaften und die Menschen, die sie bewohnen. Die fotografischen Arbeiten, die stilistisch und technisch sehr unterschiedlich sind, sind von einer visuellen Poetik durchdrungen, die nahelegt, dass Fotografie kein Akt des Sehens, sondern des Zeigens ist, kein Akt der Abbildung, sondern der Vorstellung.
