»Sony World Photography Awards 2022«
Freundeskreis Willy-Brandt-Haus will present the Sony World Photography Awards for the eighth time. In addition to stations such as Tokyo and London, the photographs will be on display from October 21, 2022 to January 15, 2023 at the Willy-Brandt-Haus in Berlin. The renowned and wide-ranging competition, in its 15th year, shows outstanding photographic works from a wide variety of genres and categories such as architecture & design, creative, documentary projects, environment, landscape, portfolio, portrait, sports, still life, nature & wild animals.
340,000 images from 211 countries were submitted for the Sony World Photography Awards 2022. Over 100 selected photographs of nominees and winners will be on display in the exhibition in the Willy-Brandt-Haus. A separate area is dedicated to the numerous participants from Germany in the open and professional competition, which extends across all categories of the competition.
The winning series of the “Photographer of the Year 2022” Adam Ferguson from Australia will also be shown. “Migrantes” is a black and white self-portrait series of migrants in Mexico waiting to cross the border into the United States. The photographer prepared each image by mounting his camera on a tripod with a remote control. He chose black and white film to erase the tangle of background colors and reduce the image to its emotional value. Then he withdrew to give his protagonists the opportunity to determine the moment of the recording themselves and thus to participate in the documentation of their life situation.
The diversity of all images brings together a wide variety of topics and approaches in a single exhibition, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in all areas of photography and events of the past year. The spectrum ranges from documentaries on political crises and climate issues to personal observations on family and loss to creative still lifes and nature photographs.

Zum achten Mal präsentiert der Freundeskreis Willy-Brandt-Haus die Sony World Photography Awards. Neben Stationen wie Tokio und London werden die Bilder vom 21.10.2022 bis 15.01.2023 im Willy-Brandt-Haus in Berlin zu sehen sein. Dabei zeigt der renommierte und breit aufgestellte Wettbewerb im 15. Jahr herausragende fotografische Werke aus verschiedensten Genres und Kategorien wie Architektur & Design, Kreativ, Dokumentarische Projekte, Umwelt, Landschaft, Portfolio, Porträt, Sport, Stillleben, Natur & wilde Tiere.
340.000 Bilder aus 211 Ländern wurden für die Sony World Photography Awards 2022 eingereicht. Über 100 ausgewählte Fotografien von Nominierten und Gewinner:innen werden in der Ausstellung im Willy-Brandt-Haus zu sehen sein. Den zahlreichen Teilnehmer:innen aus Deutschland im Offenen und Profi-Wettbewerb wird ein eigener Bereich gewidmet, der sich über alle Kategorien des Wettbewerbs erstreckt.
Auch die Gewinnerserie des „Photographer of the Year 2022“, Adam Ferguson aus Australien wird gezeigt. „Migrantes“ ist eine Schwarzweiß-Serie mit Selbstporträts von Migrant:innen in Mexiko, die darauf warten, die Grenze zu den Vereinigten Staaten zu überqueren. Der Fotograf bereitete jedes Bild vor, indem er seine Kamera auf ein Stativ mit Fernbedienung montierte. Er entschied sich für einen Schwarzweißfilm, um das Gewirr an Hintergrundfarben auszulöschen und das Bild auf seinen emotionalen Wert zu reduzieren. Dann zog er sich zurück, um seinen Protagonist:innen die Möglichkeit zu geben, den Moment der Aufnahme selbst zu bestimmen und so an der Dokumentation ihrer Lebenssituation mitzuwirken.
Die Vielfalt aller Bilder bringt unterschiedlichste Themen und Herangehensweisen in einer einzigen Ausstellung zusammen und lässt die Besucher:innen so in alle Bereiche der Fotografie und Geschehnisse des letzten Jahres eintauchen. Das Spektrum reicht dabei von Dokumentationen zu politischen Krisen und Klimathemen über persönliche Betrachtungen zu Familie und Verlust bis hin zu kreativen Stillleben und Naturaufnahmen.

Sony World Photography Awards
The Sony World Photography Awards were launched in 2007 by the World Photography Organisation (WPO) with the support of Sony. WPO promotes professional, amateur and student photography and provides the photography industry with a global platform to communicate, collaborate and present current trends in photojournalism, fine art and commercial photography.
Freundeskreis Willy-Brandt-Haus (FkWBH)
Freundeskreis Willy-Brandt-Haus was founded in 1996 as a non-profit association. Since the opening of Willy-Brandt-Haus, FkWBH has provided a varied free programme of events at the interface of culture and politics. In addition to the regular exhibitions, readings, discussions and film evenings are also offered to a wide audience.

Die Sony World Photography Awards wurden 2007 mit Unterstützung von Sony von der World Photography Organisation (WPO) ins Leben gerufen. Die WPO fördert die professionelle, Amateur- und studentische Fotografie und bietet der Fotoindustrie eine globale Plattform zur Kommunikation, Kollaboration und Präsentation aktueller Trends in den Bereichen Fotojournalismus, Fine Art und kommerzielle Fotografie.
Freundeskreis Willy-Brandt-Haus (FkWBH)
Der Freundeskreis Willy-Brandt-Haus wurde 1996 als gemeinnütziger Verein gegründet. Seit der Eröffnung des Willy-Brandt-Hauses sorgt FkWBH für ein abwechslungsreiches kostenloses Veranstaltungsprogramm an der Schnittstelle von Kultur und Politik. Neben den regelmäßigen Ausstellungen werden auch Lesungen, Diskussionen und Filmabende für ein breites Publikum angeboten.
