MAGIC FROM THE DARKROOM – The Photographer René Groebli
Documentary (Running time: 50 minutes)
Written & directed by: Phil Dänzer
The unconventional, often avant-garde works by Swiss photographer René Groebli (born in 1927) have had a formative influence on photography on an international level. From 1953 to 1981, the successful industry and advertising photographer assiduously explored the possibilities of colour photography. Groebli also completed independent projects with a high artistic standard, however. Six of his series of works are presented by means of image-music sequences in the film: Rail Magic (1949), The Eye of Love (1953/54), Ireland (1981), N.Y. Melancholia (1978/1999) and Nudes (2000-2002).
Groebli offers his personal account of the important developments in his life and provides insight into his unique way of working.
