Expanded Questioning of Photography«

Images by photographers, in confrontation with another photographic image tradition.
The works in this exhibition use different forms of presentation, often multidimensional, and seek to draw the viewer into an active engagement.
The exhibition is the result of a year-long project course at the Photocentrum of the Gilberto-Bosques-Volkshochschule Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. Individual artistic concerns led to different research, in the form of field studies, image collections or oral interviews. The topics pursued lead to political, social or artistic questions. They reflect, for example, one’s own consternation in other parents when it comes to caring for a disabled child (Sebastian Schmidt); get to the bottom of the meaning and one’s own reaction to the color red in pictures (Claus Köllner); or pursue the question of the meaning and aesthetics of purposeful photos on smartphones (Valie Djordjevic).
The various works are ultimately about different perceptions and constructions of the world. They are in discourse with biographical, geographical, social, media and futuristic aspects of our society.
