The graduation exhibition of the Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie and the Kunsthochschule Weißensee (sculpture and painting departments) transforms the Wilhelm Studios into a space for emerging artistic positions from July 18 to 27.
The 26 works by Jahrgang Neunzehn move fluidly between documentary and artistic photography. They explore heritage, identity, and resistance, portraying queer lives and East German biographies. The themes are as urgent and diverse as the individual perspectives of the photographers.

Ostkreuz School of Photography
The Ostkreuz School of Photography is one of the most important schools for documentary photography, artistic photography and photojournalism in Germany. The private school emerged out of the renowned Ostkreuz agency. The school was founded in 2004 by Werner Mahler and Thomas Sandberg, and its programme was influenced by Sibylle Bergemann, Prof. Ute Mahler and Prof. Arno Fischer, among others. Since 2023, it has been headed by Lia Darjes and Jörg Brüggemann.

Die Abschlussausstellung der Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie und der Kunsthochschule Weißensee (Fachgebiete Bildhauerei und Malerei) verwandelt die Wilhelm Studios vom 18. bis 27. Juli in ein Zentrum junger künstlerischer Positionen.
Die 26 Positionen des Jahrgang Neunzehn der Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie bewegen sich fließend zwischen dokumentarischer und künstlerischer Fotografie. Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie
Die Ostkreuzschule gehört zu den wichtigsten Ausbildungsstätten für Dokumentarfotografie, künstlerische Fotografie und Fotojournalismus in Deutschland.
Fotografie wird als Sprache und Fotograf*innen als Autor*innen verstanden, die sich der Welt mit einer klaren Haltung stellen und dabei soziale, gesellschaftliche und politische Zusammenhänge ergründen und darstellen. Gemeinsam wird Fotografie immer wieder neu reflektiert und diskutiert. Neben dieser gelebten Debattenkultur basiert die Lehre auf einer fundierten Technikausbildung, den theoretischen Grundlagen und einem starken Praxisbezug.
Hervorgegangen ist die private Schule aus der renommierten Agentur Ostkreuz. Gegründet wurde sie 2004 von Werner Mahler und Thomas Sandberg, in der Lehre wurde sie unter anderem von Prof. Ute Mahler, Sibylle Bergemann und Prof. Arno Fischer geprägt. Seit 2023 wird sie von Lia Darjes und Jörg Brüggemann geleitet.
Gelegen in einem lebendigen Hinterhof in Berlin-Weißensee umgeben von Künstler*innen-Ateliers, umfasst der Campus die Unterrichtsräume, professionelle Werkstätten, ein Fotostudio und ein Auditorium.
