»The Sun Will Also Rise«

Neue Schule für Fotografie | International Class Pablo Zuleta Zahr 2021/22

Alex Bex, Anna Fraire, Katrine Larsen Mosbæk, Diana Schmitt, Mio Shimazaki, Anya Tsaruk, Mathias von der Thannen, Shulan Wang, Daniel Willis

»The Sun Will Also Rise« is a collection of works examining the ‘psychosphere’ of international artists studying in Berlin between a global pandemic and the outbreak of war in Ukraine; two major world events influencing the collective psyche of nine photographers who met at the Neue Schule für Fotografie, Berlin 2021.

The exhibition examines how artists use photography to confront new realities; how some seek out photographic tools to express the allegory of dreamlike worlds many retreat into as a safe space amidst growing uncertainty, while others use the camera to document and process grief, anger and even nostalgia.

With multimedia photographic responses to modern crises, »The Sun Will Also Rise« offers a glimpse into spaces – mental and physical, political and poetic – reimagined by confronting injustices against our identities, lands and communities with resilience, hope and optimism.
