Take five – 5/4 beat, two beats that rub against each other, joining, merging into a rhythm that hangs, irregular and odd – and drives forward in this tension.
The five works by the graduates of the Neue Schule für Fotografie Berlin join the beat the inside with the beat of the outside allowing us to experience the friction-filled tension that arises when values begin to tremble in a new environment; when the honest, questioning look at one’s own body is confronted with cultural norms and beauty standards, when the city tree struggles with its urban environment. The works visualise how the outside seemingly defines one’s own acuity and show how motifs and places, randomly assembled, come together to form ever-new rhythms.
So: Pause your busy day, and take a time-out… five minutes, five hours, everything in between, as it comes – come by and get into the rhythm. …Just take five!

Take five – 5/4-Takt, zwei Takte, die sich reiben, zusammenfügen, ein Rhythmus, der hakt, unregelmäßig, etwas schräg – und in dieser Spannung vorantreibt.
Die fünf Abschlussarbeiten der Absolvent*innen der Neuen Schule für Fotografie Berlin fügen den Takt des Innen mit dem Takt des Außen zusammen und lassen so die reibungsvolle Spannung erleben, die entsteht, wenn Wertevorstellungen ins Schwanken geraten in einer neuen Umgebung; wenn der ehrliche, befragende Blick auf den eigenen Körper kulturellen Körper- und Schönheitsnormen gegenübersteht; wenn der Stadtbaum und seine Umwelt miteinander ringen. Sie visualisieren, wie erst das Außen eigenes Sehvermögen definiert, und zeigen, wie scheinbar zufällig zusammengestellte Motive und Orte sich zu immer neuen Rhythmen zusammenfügen.
Also: Stop your busy day, and take a time out… fünf Minuten, fünf Stunden, alles dazwischen, wie es kommt – komm vorbei, lass dich ein auf den Rhythmus, …Just take five!
