The Second World War ended on May 8, 1945. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of this decisive event, which is also celebrated as the day of liberation from National Socialism, the exhibition recalls the effects of the war and aspects of social realities that still have an impact today.
In addition to historical images from the Braunschweig city archive and the museum collection, as well as other items on loan that were created as documentation, artistic works can be seen that are dedicated to the topic of war and related aspects in a pictorial examination. Artistic projects dealing with the current war in Ukraine are also included.
Am 8.5.1945 endete der 2. Weltkrieg. Anlässlich des 80. Jahrestages dieses einschneidenden Ereignisses, das auch als Tag der Befreiung vom Nationalsozialismus gefeiert wird, erinnert die Ausstellung an die Auswirkungen des Krieges und Aspekte der gesellschaftlichen Realitäten, die bis heute Auswirkungen haben.
Neben historischen Bildzeugnissen aus dem Stadtarchiv Braunschweig und der Museumssammlung sowie weitere Leihgaben, die als Dokumentationen entstanden sind künstlerische Arbeiten zu sehen, die sich der Kriegsthematik und damit verbundenen Aspekten in einer bildnerischen Auseinandersetzung widmen. Hierbei werden auch künstlerische Projekte einbezogen, die den aktuellen Krieg in der Ukraine zum Gegenstand haben.
