»Marc Chagall. The Modernity of Decorativeness«

On the occasion of this exhibition, which brings together the works of Marc Chagall in the collections of the Nationalgalerie, the photographer Ulrike Kolb has set out on a search for clues: are the pictures of this artist, who was so extremely popular in the 20th century, still present to the same extent? Where can you see Chagall’s art today in everyday life?
Kolb encountered originals, reproductions and decoration inspired by his art in the most diverse locations in private and public life. Based on a documentary approach, the series aims to emphasise the individual aesthetic quality of each respective interior. The choice of the image detail enables her to achieve compositions in which all elements are interrelated in a precisely balanced relationsship: the architecture, the furnishings and the pictures of Chagall.
