MPB, the world’s largest online platform for used photo and video equipment, is organizing an outdoor exhibition together with the Berlinale from March 21 to April 3, 2022 on the well-known billboard in front of the power plant in Berlin-Mitte. The best photographs of the participants in the young talent photo competition “on scene”, which the Berlinale organized this year together with the photo experts from MPB, are presented on a 45-meter-long wall. The exhibition is free of charge and freely accessible around the clock.

This year, 26 students from the SRH Berlin University of Applied Sciences took part in the competition. The up-and-coming photographers accompanied the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival and created images on the topics of architecture, people & portraits and abstraction. Ines Wilczek, Viviane Franquinet and Christoph Dumser were selected as the winners of the competition. They convinced the three-person jury, consisting of representatives from both the Berlinale, SRH and MPB, with their skills, creativity and originality.

In addition to the opportunity to capture the Berlinale, the students took part in a workshop with Serah Alabi and Haydn Jones, two photographers from the Berlin MPB team. Serah Alabi shared her photography tips on subjects like exposure triangle, visual storytelling and street photography with the students. The workshop with Haydn Jones focused on videography and offered the participants information on frame rates and transmission rates, among other things. On the part of the university, the students were supervised by Prof. Lars Roth.

“Promoting talent is one of the most important tasks for the Berlinale. Personally, it is very important to me to get young creative people excited about cinema. The experimental, artistic view beyond the professional flood of images opens up exciting new perspectives on what is happening at the festival. We are particularly pleased that, with the support of our partner MPB, a selection of the best photographs can be exhibited in public space,” comments Berlinale Managing Director Mariette Rissenbeek.

“Promoting young photographers is a matter close to the heart for MPB,” explains Serah Alabi, photographer and content marketing manager at MPB in Berlin. “MPB aims to make the world of photography and camera equipment more accessible. Thanks to the cooperation with the Berlinale, we were able to offer the students access to a renowned event and give them knowledge and useful tips in the form of workshops. We very much look forward to following her further career.”
