Solo Exhibition

»No News Today«

Mathias Völzke

Outdoor exhibition at multiple venues, open 24/7.

At a time when incidence rates and new infection numbers dominate the news, Mathias Völzke releases a photographic work entitled No News Today. Presented on newsprint are twenty photographic images taken at night and saturated with ink. Plastered around the urban space of Berlin, the images seek the visibility denied them during the lockdown of exhibition halls and project spaces.

No News Today explores public space as shared space during our pandemic reality. The newspaper is not experienced by turning pages as usual, but on poster walls plastered with its printed sheets. The news bulletin only features a single line of text; there are no headlines, page numbers or sections here. The images alone hold sway over the paper and, freely configured and arranged, are repeatedly recombined in various ways. Plastered with abandon, they take over spots where adverts would otherwise rule. How long the images remain there is as uncertain as the numbers in the news.
