»CITY WALKS – Condensed Urban Landscapes«

At two prominent locations in Spandau the Berlin photo artist René Cassio Scholz presents his large-format photo arrangements, which have won several international awards.
His works can be seen 24/7 in the spacious shop windows of the listed building at Markt 5/Breite Straße in Spandau’s Old Town, over a length of 23 meters. The series is also on view at the artist’s gallery »art by cassio« at the Spandau Arcaden.
The city portraits of Berlin, Barcelona, Singapore and a number of other selected locations consist of hundreds of brilliantly photographed shots with “a considerable amount of exquisite detail” (lensCulture, Amsterdam), which he seamlessly arranges into painterly compositions that capture the essence and character of these urban landscapes to hold on.
The works from the series City Walks – Condensed Urban Landscapes that were shortlisted for the Sony World Photography Awards 2022 are permanently available on the SWPA website as high-resolution files. The photo series was awarded the Jury Prize (Top 5) at the INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS™ 2022 and took third place at the ND Professionel AWARDS 2022. There have been numerous publications in international media, including THE TIMES UK, forbes.com, NDTV and Condé Nast traveler and exhibitions in London and Tokyo. Some works can be seen in the »Sony World Photography Awards 2022« exhibition in the Willy-Brandt-Haus in Berlin-Kreuzberg until January 15, 2023.
René Cassio Scholz about the series:
“Each city has its unique history and personality. My city portraits combine the diverse impressions, discoveries and events of a place into one picture. The compositions are inspired by vedute of the 17th and 18th centuries, but in a contemporary reality, the objects of street art, art in public space, advertising signs and shopping areas etc. as symbols of everyday urban life. The digital merging and collage techniques of a large number of my individual images result in current city views between documentation and staging.”

Gleichzeitig an zwei exponierten Orten in Spandau stellt der Berliner Fotokünstler René Cassio Scholz seine mehrfach international ausgezeichneten großformatigen Fotoarrangements vor.
Zum einen sind seine Arbeiten rund um die Uhr in den großzügigen Schaufenstern des denkmalgeschützten Gebäudes Markt 5/Breite Straße in der Spandauer Altstadt auf 23 Metern Länge zu sehen. Zum anderen ist die Serie in der Galerie »art by cassio« des Künstlers in den Spandau Arcaden ausgestellt, im Rahmen des »Monat der Fotografie-OFF Berlin 2023« Fotofestivals.
Die Städteportraits über Berlin, Barcelona, Singapore und eine Reihe weiterer ausgewählter Orte bestehen aus hunderten von brillant fotografierten Aufnahmen mit „einer beträchtlichen Menge exquisiter Details“ (lensCulture, Amsterdam) die er nahtlos zu malerischen Kompositionen arrangiert um die Essenz und den Charakter dieser urbanen Landschaften festzuhalten.
Die Arbeiten der Serie City Walks – Condensed Urban Landscapes erreichte die Shortlist der Sony World Photography Awards 2022 sind dauerhaft auf der SWPA Website als hochauflösende Dateien einsehbar. Die Fotoserie wurde bei den INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS™ 2022 mit den Preis der Jury (Top 5) ausgezeichnet und bekam den dritten Platz bei den ND Professionel AWARDS 2022. Es erfolgten zahlreiche Veröffentlichungen in internationalen Medien, darunter THE TIMES UK, forbes.com, NDTV und Condé Nast traveller und Ausstellungen in London und Tokio. Einige Arbeiten sind bis zum 15. Januar 2023 in der Ausstellung »Sony World Photography Awards 2022« im Willy-Brandt-Haus in Berlin-Kreuzberg zu sehen.

„Jede Stadt hat ihre einzigartige Geschichte und Persönlichkeit. Meine Städteportraits fügen die vielfältigen Eindrücke, Entdeckungen und Ereignisse eines Ortes in einen Bild zusammen. Die Kompositionen sind inspiriert von Veduten des 17. und 18. Jahrhunderts, allerdings in einer zeitgenössischen Wirklichkeit, die Objekte der Street art, Kunst im öffentlichen Raum, Werbeschilder und Shoppingplätze etc. als Sinnbilder täglichen urbanen Lebens einbezieht. Durch digitale Verschmelzung und Collagetechniken einer Vielzahl meiner Einzelbilder ergeben sich aktuelle Stadtansichten zwischen Dokumentation und Inszenierung.“
