»Haare oder Hair«

Charmaine De Heij, Lada Suomenrinne, Lærke Lauesen, Natascha Christina Petersen

Why is hair so important?
Our hair is our identity, it’s our DNA.
It’s a symbol of power, but it can also be a symbol of control, of ourselves and others.
Why does it have such a strong impact on our self-perception?

The exhibition “HAARE oder HAIR” is a representation of these questions and thoughts by four female Berlin-based photographers, in collaboration with Marc-Antoine Hairstudio Gallery. Each artist has their own visual language, which will be presented through their individual projects in the exhibition.

The photographers show four different views on the influences that hair has, on their personal lives and in society.
Charmaine de Heij will use still life’s in her project about Black Hair and the complex relationship it has to the self and in society, and Lada Suomenrinne will focus on her embarrassment and fear about a bald spot on the side of her head. Natascha Petersen will explore the intricacy of the bond between femininity and hair, and Lærke Lauesen creates a series of self-portraits that focuses on her own self-perception and how she has dealt with certain issues concerning her hair throughout her life.
