»Exposure – Circus shadows and imaginaries«

A wondrous world of dazzling illusions and crafty (dis)simulations, authentic space of daring feats and extreme acts, a field of adventure and drama – all this is the arena that lives – and dies – by suspense, contrast, and contradiction, that we know as the circus. Circus is creative invention and physicus fiction. Together, photographer Jürgen Bürgin and literary scholar Anna-Sophie Jürgens explore these imaginaries of the Arts of the Ring. Taking the circus shadow as point of departure EXPOSURE illuminates the affinities between circus and fiction, and unveils where the history of Circus Arts is reflected, traditional circus dimensions ends, fiction begins, and how much of the former is represented in the latter.
An exhibition with photographs by Jürgen Bürgin and texts by Anna-Sophie Jürgens. Part of the 48 Stunden Neukölln Festival 2017 (June 23 – 25, 2017).
