»Lothar Wolleh Raum 3 – Atmospheres of Imagination«

Lothar Wolleh

Currently closed, but extended until Feb 2021 / Vorübergehend geschlossen, aber verlängert bis Feb 2021

With ‘Atmospheres of Imagination’, Lothar Wolleh Raum presents a key selection of Lothar Wolleh’s colour photography. On show are works from the years 1962–1979, with a focus on the photographer’s abstract pieces.

In 1965 Lothar Wolleh published “The Second Vatican Council”, a complex photo project in book form. This project marked the onset of an experimental approach to photography, exploring the fine line between figuration and abstraction. Until his death in 1979, Wolleh created such works, focussing on the properties and the spiritual meaning of colour and light.

A picture is only beautiful if it does not remind you of a picture at all: otherwise it is an illustration.’

These words, quoted in Wolleh’s diary, seem to be the root of his new photographic venture. Lothar Wolleh Raum is dedicated to the work of photographer Lothar Wolleh (Berlin, 1930 – London, 1979).
