Workshop
»The bromoil print – basics«
Roland Behrmann
In this 3-day hands on workshop the participants will produce a bromoil print of their own black and white negative under the guidance of the photographer and art historian Roland Behrmann.
The bromoil print is a process for the production of photographic positives invented around 1900. The participants will learn all about the historical and technical background, before they practically perform the process of the three main work steps – enlargement, bleaching and coloring – on their own B/W negative. Special emphasis is placed on the high sensitivity of the materials, which require great care in the execution of each step. By coloring the picture gets its unique aesthetic. The course ends with instructions for the handling of the picture at home until it is completely dry.
Material costs for photographic paper, chemicals, printing ink and transport boxes are included in the course fee.
Requirements:
Basic knowledge in the B/W laboratory desired.
Please bring a B/W negative up to 4×5 inches and clothing that can become dirty.
Bilingual teaching possible (English/German)
