Images of China are present all around us these days. As diverse as they might appear at first glance, they often remain amazingly limited in that they simply satisfy our thirst for the extreme, outrageous or the mystical beauty.
Markus Lehr however surprises us with something refreshingly different in this series of images from Guangdong.
His pictures don’t follow a certain theme. They don’t want to teach us anything. They rather seem to observe without any judgement. Clever light setting, fine colour contrasts and both day and night perspectives offer us a wonderful and seductive path into his way of seeing. It feels like he is using a filter of the unreal to show us reality in a clearer way.
A corresponding book will expand the scope of the exhibition.
