Duo Exhibition
»Cuts & Shapes«
Mario Dollinger & Sabine Wild
Sabine Wild used digital color photos as raw material, which she took in the suburbs of the Chinese megacities Hong Kong and Chongqing as well as in Las Vegas in the USA. She subjected this material to post-processing by hand, which is reminiscent of weaving. This is how nested, serially repeated and image-filling architectural views with countless details emerge. Her cuts show both real and fictitious city views. They are complex, nested views of residential batteries for people, which, compared to the actually existing high-rise blocks in the suburbs of Hong Kong or Chongqing, take on a fantastically unreal character through the artistic intervention. Through the montage technique used, they are artistically transferred to an even larger, almost absurdly gigantic dimension, which declares them to be science fiction of the ambivalent kind.
Mario Dollinger shows a concentrated excerpt of CLUSTER II. He emphasizes the architectural spatiality supplemented by existing lighting effects, which he captures photographically and skilfully stages. They are photos that do not reveal the function of the places where they were taken. The lighting and the interaction with the geometric structures create images of a world beyond everyday life and its banality. Dollinger shows us real places and situations as if they had fallen into an unbelievable melancholy and seriousness, as if a ban or judgment had been imposed on them, as if destinies were being fulfilled in them.
