Art Auction
»Varenyky«
Kateřina Sýsová
In support of the Ukraine, Kateřina Sýsová is auctioning one of her limited edition artworks!
Kateřina Sýsová about her artwork:
“Varenyky was a favorite dish of Nikolai Gogol, who was born in what is now Ukraine. He often mentions them in his literature. In the short story “The Night Before Christmas” from the book “Evenings at the Hamlet Next to Dikanka”, the varenyky fly into your mouth as if by magic. Other books, films or videos also refer to this scene – sometimes with a direct reference to Gogol, sometimes they work independently with this motif in their own cultural appropriation. The video in which Volodymyr Zelenskyy dances in high heels is also one of them. Vareniki simply belong to the Ukraine, and so does my support. That’s why I created a photo that I’m going to print and auction in a limited edition of five. All profits will be donated to support Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression.”
This is an online auction.
