D’ici, ça ne paraît pas si loin (Von hier aus scheint es nicht so weit weg zu sein) is a documentary and artistic project by the collective LesAssociés, which combines photography, sound and video.

The project started in 2015 on the occasion of the territorial reform in France and raises the question of belonging. What does it mean today to “be from here”? Nouvelle Aquitaine, the largest region in France by area, is the setting for this project. For four years, the collective’s photographers explored the 1,900 km of national borders: visited four different cities, explored their populations and five natural areas and collected more than 150 hours of interview material. Their work focused on the following topics: the relationship between rurality and metropolis, the question of time and infrastructure and how a fairy tale emerges from the fears that can be aroused in a certain area.

The project will be presented in three versions: an exhibition, a film and a book (Editions le bec en l’air, February 2020) and will be screened for three years. In addition to geographical and social aspects, it follows the principle: Forming a society means above all creating culture.
