Duo Exhibition

»ATME!« (BREATHE!)

Nicole Woischwill & Marc Zenner

Currently closed / Vorübergehend geschlossen

The works of Nicole Woischwill und Marc Zenner that are shown in the framework of MONAT DER FOTOGRAFIE-OFF BERLIN 2020 came into being before the world knew of Corona. However, both artists postulate unisono: BREATHE! (ATME!)

For that matter the rich yellow of the departing U-Bahn is framing the letters STADTMITTE so decisively as if Marc Zenner held his breath when he took the picture.
Where his photographs are out and about, Nicole Woischwill dives into waterbreathing. Her series THE STUBBORNNESS OF SILENT THINGS (VOM EIGENSINN DER LEISEN DINGE) turns to the inside. The dance of light and shadow of her watercreatures is a mere movement of respiration. What is underlying yet unsettles, the flash point of her playful motives was the attack of the Bataclan in Paris. In 2015 Woischwill is working in a press agency and the images of violence are flooding incessantly, taking her breath away to the point of insufferableness. The introversion of her art is a response to all, creating a space out of time to breathe deeply again.

In this, both positions in the exhibition explore what BREATHE! could mean from a photographic standpoint and that is: to pause for a moment with the eyes.
