Solo Exhibition

»Meine Mutter, meine Schwester und ich«

»My Mother, My Sister and I«

Christa Mayer

Mother, daughter, sister – Christa Mayer traces the microcosm of her own family with unsparing openness and directness. She compiles photographs of her mother, her sister, self-portraits, still lifes, landscape shots and video portraits into a narrative that visualises different aspects of bonding, relationships and family. The ambivalence between closeness and distance, strangeness and familiarity, resistance and acceptance resonates in the visual space.

Christa Mayer (*1945) has been taking photographs all her life. Her photographic signature was shaped by visits to courses at the legendary Kreuzberg Workshop for Photography, founded by Michael Schmidt. Mayer is one of the few women who held their own there.

The project was curatorially supported by André Kirchner. A photobook with texts by Ferenc Jádi, André Kirchner and Thomas Weski will be published by Hartmann Books to accompany the exhibition.
