»Mineriada« is a sarcastic term that combines the Romanian word “miner” (miner) with the suffix “-iada,” as in “olimpiada” (a suffix used to form nouns). Anton Roland Laub examines the division of Romanian society that led the country to a decade of isolation. The artist explores the sites and trauma of physical violence incurred when enraged miners loyal to the regime were brought to Bucharest by train in order to strike down the pro-European opposition. He thus points attention to recurring conflicts in a polarized world.

Following Mobile Churches (2017) and Last Christmas (of Ceaușescu) (2020), Mineriada is the third part of Anton Roland Laub’s Romania trilogy, published by Kehrer Verlag.

»Mineriada« ist ein sarkastisch verwendeter Begriff, der das rumänische Wort „miner“ (Bergarbeiter) mit der Endung „-iada“, wie in „olimpiada“ kombiniert. Anton Roland Laub behandelt die Spaltung der rumänischen Gesellschaft, die das Land in ein Jahrzehnt der Isolation führte. Der Künstler untersucht die Orte des Geschehens und das Trauma der handgreiflichen Gewalt, als aufgehetzte regimetreue Bergarbeiter mit Zügen in die Hauptstadt Bukarest gebracht wurden, um die pro-europäische Opposition niederzuknüppeln. Er sensibilisiert so für wiederkehrende Konflikte in einer polarisierten Welt.

Nach Mobile Churches (2017) und Last Christmas (of Ceaușescu) (2020) legt Anton Roland Laub mit Mineriada den dritten Teil seiner Rumänien-Trilogie im Kehrer Verlag vor.
