Group Exhibition

»Palmenschatten (Palm Shadows)«

Marie Kratochvílová

I didn’t want to depict reality, I wanted to look for its substance.”

To be seen in the group exhibition “Palm Shadows”, together with works by the painters Ina Bierstedt, Bettina Carl and Silke Leverkühne, curated by Dr. Dorothee Bauerle-Willert.

Marie Kratochvílová (*1946) developed – also in close contact with the Czech conceptual art of the 70s – her own work, which combines photography, concept and an independent view. In the exhibited works, the artist focuses on the almost casual textures of the urban landscape: the marks in the asphalt, the ephemeral play of light and shadow, the structures of a picket fence. It’s a meditative minimalism that draws a whole world, a poetic fullness, out of a small detail. Precise and open at the same time, the photographs allow themselves to be linked to everyday, completely unspectacular experiences and actions, as well as to their respective times and histories.
