Description

Galerie Brockstedt cordially invites you and your friends to the exhibition opening on 11 February 2017, from 6 to 9 pm. Works from the photographer Gabriela Torres Ruiz, born in Mexico City and now living in Berlin, will be shown.

(Im) balances
The exhibition titled (Im) balances, brings together three work collections; Silence (2009-2015), Unfinished Dreams (2015), and Origin (2014-2016).

The common theme running through all three of them is the relationship between the raw earth formations and the man-made structures. In contrast to natural places, which are shaped by the constant rhythm of nature, the history of buildings is more likely defined by disruption. The interventions of their inhabitants or users create traces, which overlay each over time and can be read as archaeological layers. Those layers exist in a physical sense and illustrate in a comprehensible way a framework, within which changes have taken place. The fate of these man-made structures returning to their initial state, where nature regains its lost place. The decay and destruction of buildings become a symbol of the continuum of time.
