»AT THE EDGE«
Jan Zychlinski
They stand there like monuments: petrol stations, improvised or abandoned long ago. And people, improvising or even giving up.
The photographer Jan Zychlinski, living in Bern, has traveled the edge of Europe, especially the South Caucasus. There he documented the fate of refugees for a long time, often displaced within their own country, victims of post-Soviet conflicts. On his travels, the old petrol stations were a sign of a past that also influenced the portrayed people. What was seen as a symbol of prosperity and mobility ended as a ruin. The lives of many people are also in the deadlock. And there seems to be no future for them, there on the edge.
Portraits of petrol stations and people will be shown in our gallery from 9th September until mid-November.
