For his project “Memories”, the photo artist Olaf Schlote portrayed survivors of the Holocaust and dealt with their world in Israel. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, the Friends of the Willy Brandt House are showing their exhibition, specially designed for the Willy Brandt House, from January 24th to April 27th, 2025.
Olaf Schlote’s work aims to make the incomprehensible visible. The artistic search for traces of the places of remembrance of the National Socialist terror regime leaves room for the viewer’s own associations and builds a bridge to the survival and life of those portrayed. The diverse artistic forms of expression provide space to trace one’s own associations: the movements of life, people and nature.
Der Fotokünstler Olaf Schlote porträtierte für sein Projekt „Memories” Überlebende des Holocaust und setzte sich mit deren Lebenswelt in Israel auseinander. Anlässlich des 80. Jahrestages der Befreiung des Konzentrationslagers Auschwitz-Birkenau zeigt der Freundeskreis Willy-Brandt-Haus vom 24.01. – 27.04.2025 seine speziell für das Willy-Brandt-Haus entworfene Ausstellung.
Das Werk von Olaf Schlote will das Unbegreifliche sichtbar machen. Die künstlerische Spurensuche an die Erinnerungsorte des nationalsozialistischen Terrorregimes lässt Raum für eigene Assoziationen der Betrachtenden und schlägt eine Brücke zum Überleben und Leben der Portraitierten. Die vielfältigen künstlerischen Ausdrucksformen geben Raum, eigenen Assoziationen nachzuspüren: den Bewegungen des Lebens, der Menschen und der Natur.

Adjustment of access regulations at Willy-Brandt-Haus: From now on visitors are not permitted to bring bags, back bags or suitcases into the Willy-Brandt-Haus that exceed the dimensions 26 cm x 40 cm x 16 cm. We ask for your understanding that it is not possible to hand in larger bags or items of luggage on site. All bags will be checked by our security staff at the entrance.
