»f³ – MASTERCLASS DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY«
Kerem Uzel
Telling exciting stories in a visually outstanding way, bringing hidden things to light, capturing emotions in a split second, conveying new information and leaving a lasting impression. Documentary photography can do all this. Capturing fleeting moments in that one decisive instant and condensing them into a photographic document with the camera requires not only a sure feeling for pressing the shutter release at the right moment. Careful preparation of the planned reportage, an intensive examination of the topics dealt with, excellent mastery of the camera technique and an intensive examination of one’s own visual language are prerequisites for the realisation of outstanding documentary works, that get under your skin.
For ten months, the internationally renowned photographer Kerem Uzel (*1973, Corum, Turkey) supervises the participants‘ projects on 10 teaching days (5 blocks of 2 days each). They might be freelance long-term projects or reportages for magazine clients, they can be still in an initial stage or already well advanced. In an intensive dialogue with the lecturer, the participants deal with the choice of subject, project content, editing and photographic technique and look for ways to place their work on the international market. In addition to strengthening the participants‘ photographic practice, the »f³ – MASTERCLASS DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY« also focuses on intensifying the narrative thread of the documentary projects and the very concrete work on international projects.
