Serendipity refers to stumbling across something you weren’t looking for – but which solves a problem in a surprising way.
On glacier landscapes 6000 meters above sea level, Malin Walleser discovered a formal language that expands her images of ice and rock as black spots.
»Serendipity – Fearing the Void« uses various artistic approaches to explore the state of fear in total isolation. The isolation of the individual in nature in one of its most extreme forms is both a solution and a problem. Malin Walleser translates the feelings of fear that arise there as blind spots in the field of vision and opens up new creative scope.
The large-format collages of analog photographs show artificial landscapes created in the search for forms of expression. Studies in the form of small drawings and a multi-channel video installation offer visitors the opportunity to follow the artistic research process and search for traces in the new landscapes themselves. Two video collages describe the principle of serendipity, the finding of what is not sought.
At the opening of the exhibition, the musician Djonni Laser aka Johanna Walleser will perform a special live act in which she will use the original audio from the video works. In addition, an interactive online work of art will be published on the occasion of the exhibition, which artistically deals with AI-based image generation.
Serendipität bezeichnet das Stolpern über eine Sache, nach der man nicht gesucht hat – die aber ein Problem auf überraschende Weise löst.
Auf 6000 Meter hoch gelegenen Gletscherlandschaften entdeckte Malin Walleser eine Formensprache, die als schwarze Flecken ihre Bilder von Eis und Fels erweitert.
»Serendipity – Fearing the Void« beschäftigt sich in verschiedenen künstlerischen Ansätzen mit dem Zustand der Angst in totaler Abgeschiedenheit. Die Isolation des Individuums in der Natur in einer ihrer extremsten Formen ist hier Lösung und Problem zugleich. Die dort eintretenden Gefühle von Angst werden von Malin Walleser als blinde Flecken im Sichtfeld übersetzt und eröffnen neue Gestaltungsspielräume.
Die großformatigen Collagen aus analogen Fotografien zeigen künstliche Landschaften, die auf der Suche nach Ausdrucksformen entstanden sind. Studien in Form von kleinen Zeichnungen und eine Mehrkanal-Videoinstallation bieten den Besucher*innen die Möglichkeit den künstlerischen Forschungsprozess nachzuverfolgen und selbst auf Spurensuche in den neuen Landschaften zu gehen. Zwei Videocollagen beschreiben das Prinzip der Serendipität, das Finden des nicht Gesuchten.
Zur Ausstellungseröffnung spielt die Musikerin Djonni Laser aka Johanna Walleser einen besonderen Live Act, in dem sie die Original Audios der Videoarbeiten verwertet. Außerdem wird anlässlich der Ausstellung ein interaktives Online-Kunstwerk veröffentlicht, das sich auf künstlerische Weise mit KI-basierter Bildgenerierung auseinandersetzt.
