Podcast
The Viewed Podcast was recently started by Cooper Blade as an excuse to conduct longform interviews with people who have something interesting to say about the state, history, and/or philosophy of photography.
Instead of interning as a part of his undergraduate degree at the BTK University of Art and Design here in Berlin, Cooper sought a way to ask photographers, curators, teachers, etc. the questions that one would hope to ask during a normal internship period.
So far, this project has given him the opportunity to sit down with people like German freelance photographer Djamila Grossman, Czech humanitarian photographer Liba Taylor, photobook publisher Hannes Wanderer (Peperoni Books, 25books), German photojournalist and documentary photographer Bjoern Steinz, Berlin based photographer Christoph Kohlmann (currently on view at FENSTER61 from May 18 – July 12, 2016), lecturer, art critic, and author Eric Aichinger, photographer Viktoria Sorochinski (current solo exhibition at PhotoWerkBerlin [April 13 – June 26, 2016] and part of »The Surface Labyrinth« [June 3 – 9, 2016] at Kunstquartier Bethanien), American photographer Mustafah Abdulaziz, British photographer Michael Grieve, and Robert Lyons, the developer and director of the Hartford Art School international limited-residency MFA program in Photography.
One of the goals of the project has been to have raw and honest conversations about contemporary topics that are particularly pertinent to the current state of the photograph, which has included talks on subjects such as “how to make a living as a photographer”, “the art of photobook making”, and “the photograph as document”.
You can find the interviews on his website or subscribe to the podcast on iTunes to stay up-to-date with the newest episode, and also follow Cooper on Twitter!
