Solo Exhibition

»Whispering of Japan«

Kathrin von Eye

Also open during Nov & Dec / Auch im Nov & Dez geöffnet

The Potsdam based photographer Kathrin von Eye will start the new exhibition series in the project space “& Co” in November 2020 with her solo show “Whispering of Japan”. It is the second exhibition for the artist and the first one for the project space. The newly founded creative-artistic network “& Co” in the Berlin district of Schöneberg offers regional visual artists a space to become visible in exhibitions and to establish themselves.

The title of the exhibition “Whispering of Japan” is as delicately poetic as what can be seen or expected in the photographs. Because on her travels and forays, Kathrin von Eye explores intermediate worlds, the dynamic and fragile relationship between subject and object, man and world. Her photographs are not representations of reality, but rather express the movement of photography. So she doesn’t look for it, she finds it: The unexpected and surprising. Oscillating relationships between light and dark. What is found loses its solid contours and becomes ambiguous. What’s behind the curtain on an apartment in Kyoto? Behind the mist of hell that rises?

It is this vague, mysterious aspect that distinguishes Kathrin von Eyes’ photographs and demands a second look. And invite the viewer to break with the usual ways of looking at things. “For me, photography means capturing a moment that touches me deeply,” says Kathrin von Eye.

It’s a very subtle nuance, a goose bump feeling, not repeatable. Always find, don’t search. With my work I would like to open a door for the viewer, invite him on a journey whose goal remains open.”
