To mark the 100th anniversary of the first photomontages by photographic artist Heinz Hajek-Halke, the group exhibition METAMORPHOSIS takes as its starting point the artist’s work between 1925 and 1935.
Hajek-Halke (1898 – 1983) is one of the most important experimental German photographic artists of the 20th century. Looking for new visual compositions from the beginning of his career in 1925, he worked with different techniques (a.o. multiple exposures and collages) enabling him to create dynamic images inspired by cinematographic pictures. The regular publication of his innovative photographs in his time’s illustrated magazines and newspapers brought him great notoriety.
Many of Heinz Hajek-Halke’s photomontages have gone down in the history of photography and continue to inspire today’s generations of image-makers. In addition to rediscovering the artist’s early work, this exhibition builds a bridge with current forms of composite images, ranging from cut-and-paste photo collages to digitally edited montages.
CHAUSSEE 36 PHOTOGRAPHY is pleased to celebrate its 10th anniversary with this group exhibition and a special program that will run throughout 2025.
Zum 100. Jubiläum der ersten Fotomontagen des Fotokünstlers Heinz Hajek-Halke nimmt die Gruppenausstellung METAMORPHOSIS das Werk des Künstlers zwischen 1925 und 1935 zum Ausgangspunkt.
Hajek-Halke (1898–1983) ist einer der wichtigsten experimentellen deutschen Fotokünstler des 20. Jahrhunderts. Auf der Suche nach neuen Bildkompositionen arbeitete er seit Beginn seiner Karriere mit verschiedenen Techniken wie Mehrfachbelichtungen und Collagen, die es ihm ermöglichten, dynamische, von Kinobildern inspirierte Bilder zu schaffen. Die regelmäßige Veröffentlichung seiner innovativen Fotografien in illustrierten Zeitschriften und Zeitungen verschaffte ihm große Bekanntheit.
Viele Fotomontagen von Heinz Hajek-Halke sind in die Geschichte der Fotografie eingegangen und inspirieren auch heute noch Generationen von Bildgestalter*innen. Neben der Wiederentdeckung seines Frühwerks schlägt diese Ausstellung eine Brücke zu aktuellen Formen der Bildkomposition, von der Fotocollage bis zur digital bearbeiteten Montage.
CHAUSSEE 36 PHOTOGRAPHY freut sich, mit dieser Ausstellung gleichzeitig sein zehnjähriges Bestehen mit einem Sonderprogramm zu feiern, das das gesamte Jahr 2025 hindurch läuft.
