“Shadows of Light” is the title of an exhibition in which the photographer Lothar Wolleh meets the painter Alexander Camaro, who is the subject of his portrait. Both artists met and worked together again and again over many years, they valued each other as people and artists.
The exhibition reveals a surprising closeness between photographer and painter in their understanding of color and light.
For the first time in an exhibition, the emphasis is placed on the independent colored oeuvre of Lothar Wolleh, who, starting in 1962, developed his own color compositions using light, shadow, blurring, blurring and analogue technology. The reason for the photos shown here was the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965.
Lothar Wolleh has been known for the portraits of over one hundred and forty internationally renowned painters, sculptors and performance artists he created since 1963 – including Paul Dierkes, Hans Uhlmann, Bernhard Heiliger, Joseph Beuys, Lucio Fontana, René Magritte, Günther Uecker and Alexander Camaro.

„Schatten aus Licht“ ist die Überschrift für eine Ausstellung, in der der Fotograf Lothar Wolleh auf den von ihm portraitierten Maler Alexander Camaro trifft. Beide Künstler haben sich über viele Jahre immer wieder getroffen und zusammengearbeitet, sie schätzten sich als Mensch und Künstler.
In der Ausstellung wird eine überraschende Nähe von Fotograf und Maler im Verständnis von Farbe und Licht deutlich.
Erstmals wird in einer Ausstellung der Akzent auf das eigenständige farbige Oeuvre von Lothar Wolleh gelegt, der ab 1962 eigene, mit Licht, Schatten, Unschärfen, Verwischungen und analoger Technik Farbkompositionen entwickelte. Anlass der hier gezeigten Fotos war das Zweite Vatikanische Konzil 1962 bis 1965.
Lothar Wolleh ist bislang für die ab 1963 entstandenen Portraits von über einhundertvierzig international bekannter Maler:innen, Bildhauer:innen und Aktionskünstler:innen bekannt – unter anderen Paul Dierkes, Hans Uhlmann, Bernhard Heiliger, Joseph Beuys, Lucio Fontana, René Magritte, Günther Uecker und Alexander Camaro.

Guided tour with Oliver Wolleh
Oliver Wolleh, Lothar Wolleh’s son, will guide you through the exhibition (held in German). He manages the Lothar Wolleh Estate and runs the Lothar Wolleh Raum in Berlin, an exhibition space dedicated exclusively to his father’s oeuvre.
Afterwards, from 6.30 pm (admission from 6 pm), there will be an aperitivo with Seyko Itoh and Sabrina Ma, the piano-drums duo GaGoGiG. Costs: 5 € for snacks and drinks.

Führung mit Oliver Wolleh
Oliver Wolleh, der Sohn von Lothar Wolleh, führt durch die Ausstellung. Er verwaltet den Nachlass (Lothar Wolleh Estate) und betreibt mit dem Lothar Wolleh Raum in Berlin einen Ausstellungsort, der ausschließlich dem Oeuvre seines Vaters gewidmet ist.
Anschließend findet ab 18:30 Uhr (Einlass ab 18 Uhr) ein Aperitivo mit Seyko Itoh und Sabrina Ma, dem Klavier-Schlagzeug Duo GaGoGiG, statt. Kosten: 5 € für Snacks und Getränke.

In der Ausstellung »Schatten aus Licht« trifft der Fotograf Lothar Wolleh, bislang für die ab 1963 entstandenen Portraits von über einhundertvierzig international renommierter Künstler:innen bekannt, auf den ebenfalls von ihm portraitierten Maler Alexander Camaro. Der Akzent wird auf das farbige Oeuvre von Lothar Wolleh gelegt, der ab 1962 in analoger Technik ein eigenständiges, mit Licht, Schatten und Unschärfen komponiertes Farbwerk entwickelte, dass erstmals in Berlin umfassend gezeigt wird. Mit dem Podium wird versucht, eine erste Einordnung von Wollehs Farbfotografie in das künstlerische Schaffen seiner Zeit zu geben. Dabei wird auch die überraschende Nähe von Fotograf und Maler im Verständnis von Farbe und Licht diskutiert. Ein weiteres Thema ist die Frage, wie mit Estates und Stiftungen künstlerisches Schaffen über das Ableben der Künstler:innen hinaus lebendig bleiben kann.
