Following the success of the first Berlin Affordable Art Fair in April 2024, the fair for affordable art returns to Treptow. This year, the art fair will be larger, more international, and more diverse.
Art for All in Berlin Treptow
Last year, in 2023, the art event already impressed Berliners: With over 10,000 visitors, the Berlin branch of the Affordable Art Fair was one of the most successful first-time fairs since the Ramsay Fairs were founded. In its second year, the number and diversity of exhibitors are growing. Around 60 galleries from 19 countries will present their works amidst the impressive industrial architecture of the Arena Berlin. As a special summer highlight, the Badeschiff will be part of the event on two evenings. The relaxed atmosphere is part of the concept of the international art fair. Its goal is to make the art market accessible to everyone. By making art purchases easy in a contemporary, low-threshold environment, it aims to reduce barriers to entry and inspire enthusiasm, especially among first-time buyers.
The Berlin Affordable Art Fair presents a wide range of talented newcomers and established contemporary artists with positions in the fields of painting, sculpture, printmaking, and photography. This year, in addition to Berlin exhibitors, a focus will be on Spanish galleries and East Asian artists. Among those represented from Berlin are artnow Gallery, Galerie feinart berlin, BBA Gallery, and whitegrid gallery, as well as from Spain, Pigment Gallery, Galeria Rodrigo Juarranz, and 3 Punts Galeria. In addition to works by Gerhard Richter, Georg Baselitz, and Cornelia Schleime, the exhibition will also feature works by emerging artists such as Jurena Muñoz and Christoph Rode.
A Democratic Art Festival Instead of Elitism
“We are an art fair for explorers,” explains fair director Oliver Lähndorf. “Contemporary art is too exciting to be left to a small elite. That’s why we consciously position ourselves as part of the democratization of the art market. The Affordable Art Fair thrives on its openness and diversity – both in terms of the art exhibited and the audience. We want to bring this vibrancy back to Arena Berlin this summer and inspire the neighborhood as well as the entire city.”
Special Exhibition: Emerging Artists Berlin 2025
The Affordable Art Fair not only brings international trends and big names to Berlin, but also sees the regional promotion of young artists as an essential component of its democratic approach. With the “Emerging Artists” special exhibition, it provides a platform for young talents who have recently graduated from art schools, thus facilitating their entry into the art market.
Curator and fair manager Hannah Weber-Heidenfels is focusing particularly on emerging female artists this year. First, Paula Hoffmann from Berlin: Inspired by architectural surfaces and the transient nature of the process, construction sites serve as the material repository for her art. Her works are a fascinating play of materiality and an intense tension between fragility and stability. Also featured in the Emerging Artists exhibition will be Hamburg artist Anne Meerphol, whose art explores the body, fluidity, and care through painting, installation, performance, and text.
Curated Art Under €1,000
To demonstrate that purchasing high-quality art is possible even on a smaller budget, and that every gallery has art for under €1,000 in its repertoire, the fair is bringing back a popular format from last year: a curated wall featuring works from various gallery programs under €1,000.
Other Fair Highlights
Daily free guided tours at 3 pm offer in-depth insights into the exhibited art and the work of the gallery owners. A curator’s tour with Hannah Weber-Heidenfels will also be offered, introducing the special exhibition “Emerging Artists Berlin 2025.” Another popular highlight is the Late View on June 13 from 6 – 10 pm. With a live DJ, drinks, and exclusive access to the Badeschiff, the fair invites you to a relaxed summer evening in a creative atmosphere.
About the Affordable Art Fair
The Affordable Art Fair was founded in 1999 by London-based gallerist Will Ramsay. It now takes place on four continents in 15 major cities. The Affordable Art Fair opened its first German location in Hamburg in 2012. With over 20,000 visitors annually, it has established itself as the largest art fair in Northern Germany. Since 2024, the Affordable Art Fair has also been held in Berlin. In the UK, the Affordable Art Fair has already received multiple “CoolBrand®” awards.
Nach dem Erfolg der ersten Berliner Affordable Art Fair im April 2024 kehrt die Messe für bezahlbare Kunst zurück nach Treptow. Größer, internationaler und vielfältiger präsentiert sich die Kunstmesse in diesem Jahr.
Kunst für alle in Berlin Treptow
Bereits im letzten Jahr überzeugte das Kunst-Event die Berliner*innen: Mit über 10.000 Besucher*innen war der Berliner Ableger der Affordable Art Fair eine der erfolgreichsten Erstmessen seit Gründung der Ramsay Fairs. In ihrem zweiten Jahr wachsen die Anzahl und Vielfalt der Aussteller*innen. Rund 60 Galerien aus 19 Ländern präsentieren ihre Werke inmitten der eindrucksvollen Industriearchitektur der Arena Berlin. Als besonderes sommerliches Highlight ist an zwei Abenden das Badeschiff Teil des Events. Die entspannte Atmosphäre gehört zum Konzept der internationalen Kunstmesse. Ihr Ziel ist es, den Kunstmarkt für alle zugänglich zu machen. Durch unkomplizierten Kunstkauf im zeitgemäßen, niedrigschwelligen Umfeld möchte sie gerade bei Erstkäufer*innen Schwellenängste abbauen und Begeisterung wecken.
Die Berliner Affordable Art Fair präsentiert eine breite Palette talentierter Newcomer*innen sowie etablierte zeitgenössische Künstler*innen mit Positionen aus den Bereichen Malerei, Plastik, Druck und Fotografie. Einen Schwerpunkt bilden dieses Jahr neben Berliner Austeller*innen spanische Galerien sowie ostasiatische Kunstschaffende. Unter anderem sind aus Berlin die artnow Gallery, Galerie feinart berlin, BBA Gallery und whitegrid gallery vertreten sowie aus Spanien die Pigment Gallery, Galeria Rodrigo Juarranz und 3 Punts Galeria. Gezeigt werden neben Arbeiten von Gerhard Richter, Georg Baselitz und Cornelia Schleime ebenso Werke aufstrebender Künstler*innen wie Jurena Muñoz oder Christoph Rode.
Demokratisches Kunstfestival statt Elitarismus
„Wir sind eine Kunstmesse für Entdecker*innen“, erklärt Messedirektor Oliver Lähndorf. „Zeitgenössische Kunst ist zu spannend, um sie einer kleinen Elite zu überlassen. Deswegen positionieren wir uns bewusst als Teil der Demokratisierung des Kunstmarktes. Die Affordable Art Fair lebt von ihrer Offenheit und Vielfalt – in Bezug auf die gezeigte Kunst ebenso wie auf das Publikum. Diese Lebendigkeit wollen wir diesen Sommer wieder in die Arena Berlin bringen und die Nachbarschaft genauso wie die gesamte Stadt damit begeistern.“
Sonderausstellung Emerging Artists Berlin 2025
Die Affordable Art Fair bringt nicht nur internationale Strömungen und große Namen nach Berlin, sondern sieht ebenso die regionale Nachwuchsförderung als essenziellen Bestandteil ihres demokratischen Ansatzes. Mit der „Emerging Artists“-Sonderausstellung gibt sie jungen Talenten, die erst vor kurzem ihren Abschluss an einer Kunsthochschule gemacht haben, eine Plattform und erleichtert ihnen damit den Einstieg in den Kunstmarkt.
Kuratorin und Messemanagerin Hannah Weber-Heidenfels setzt dieses Jahr besonders auf aufstrebende Künstlerinnen. Zum einen Paula Hoffmann aus Berlin: Inspiriert von architektonischen Oberflächen und dem Transitorischen des Prozesses sind Baustellen das Materiallager ihrer Kunst. Ihre Werke sind ein faszinierendes Spiel der Materialität und ein intensives Spannungsfeld von Fragilität und Stabilität. Ebenso Teil der Emerging Artist Ausstellung wird die Hamburger Künstlerin Anne Meerphol sein, die sich in ihrer Kunst mit Körper, Fluidität und Fürsorge in Form von Malerei, Installation, Performance und Text beschäftigt.
Kuratierte Kunst unter 1.000 EUR
Um zu zeigen, dass der Kauf qualitativ hochwertiger Kunst auch bei einem kleineren Budget möglich ist und jede Galerie auch Kunst für unter 1.000 EUR in ihrem Repertoire hat, bringt die Messe ein beliebtes Format des Vorjahres zurück: Eine kuratierte Wand mit Werken verschiedener Galerieprogramme unter 1.000 EUR.
Weitere Highlights der Messe
Tägliche kostenlose Führungen um 15 Uhr bieten tiefergehende Einblicke in die ausgestellte Kunst und die Arbeit der Galerist*innen. Ebenso wird eine Kuratorinführung angeboten mit Hannah Weber-Heidenfels, in der sie die Sonderschau „Emerging Artists Berlin 2025“ vorstellt. Ein weiteres beliebtes Highlight ist die Late View am 13. Juni von 18 bis 22 Uhr. Mit Live DJ, Drinks und exklusivem Zugang zum Badeschiff lädt die Messe zu einem entspannten Sommerabend in kreativer Atmosphäre ein.
Über die Affordable Art Fair
Die Affordable Art Fair wurde 1999 vom Londoner Galeristen Will Ramsay gegründet. Mittlerweile findet sie auf vier Kontinenten in 15 Metropolen statt. Ihren ersten deutschen Standort eröffnete die Affordable Art Fair 2012 in Hamburg. Mit jährlich über 20.000 Besucher*innen hat sich dort als größte Kunstmesse Norddeutschlands etabliert. Seit 2024 findet die Affordable Art Fair auch in Berlin statt. In Großbritannien ist die Affordable Art Fair bereits mehrfach als „CoolBrand®“ ausgezeichnet worden.
