»The Image Of A Place:
Photographing the memory of land«
Anne Erhard, Marine Lanier, Mischa de Stroumillo, Cameron Williamson
Photographs expand space. They open up gaps in our memories and point to a separate reality that we can never fully enter – a version of events where past, present and future converge to reveal their relation.
This exhibition is based on landscapes acting as an archive and how land retains and shelters our histories. „The Image Of A Place“ refers to the idea that certain iterations of a place only exist within imaginations. Natural phenomena become carriers of a narrative that highlights transformative processes; four young photographers attempt to understand the materials of their origin.
Mischa de Stroumillo is showing a work about Poland’s threatened Bialowieza forest; Marine Lanier’s “Les Soleil des Loups” follows two brothers living near a French volcano. Cameron Williamson investigates the human figure as a body reliant on orientation in “A mask is not a mountain”, while Anne Erhard’s “An elderberry place” is about a prehistoric meteorite and its relation to her Bohemian family.
