In September 2023, AFF Galerie e.V. in Berlin presents a group exhibition dedicated to one of the most pressing issues of our time: climate change in the Anthropocene. Its present and future consequences, the struggle for resources, colonization and exploitation, migration and the dynamics around geopolitical landscapes are partial aspects that six current photo-artistic positions reflect on in different ways. They provoke questions about how responsibility and agency are distributed and how nature can be combined with human ecologies to create a fair, balanced, and sustainable bio-technosphere for all living beings.
Wars, energy crises, and environmental disasters painfully show us how resource dependence can take devastating and diverse forms. The idea of a predictable world seems obsolete today in view of its unmanageability. Yet it was precisely the illusion of human omnipotence that shaped industrialized societies and drove global change. With the help of diverse artistic strategies, the presented exhibition attempts to make visible the processes and participants of this change. At first glance not directly connected, they are part of a socio-political fabric whose totality to grasp challenges the possibilities of our everyday understanding. This makes us realize that the presentation of different points of view, the exchange and discussion, and thus the promotion and association of people dedicated to these relevant dynamics are extremely important.
Therefore, in the group exhibition, on the one hand, the photographic works of artists* from different countries will be brought into dialogue. On the other hand, the AFF Galerie invites the public in its supporting program to discuss with activists, scientists and journalists the question of what art can achieve in times of climate change.

Im September 2023 zeigt die AFF Galerie e.V. in Berlin eine Gruppenausstellung, die sich einem der dringlichsten Themen unserer Zeit widmet: dem Klimawandel im Anthropozän. Seine gegenwärtigen und zukünftigen Folgen, der Kampf um Ressourcen, Kolonialisierung und Ausbeutung, Migration und die Dynamiken um geopolitische Landschaften sind Teilaspekte, welche sechs aktuelle fotokünstlerische Positionen auf unterschiedliche Weise reflektieren. Sie provozieren Fragen danach, wie Verantwortung und Handlungsvermögen verteilt sind und wie Natur mit menschlichen Ökologien kombiniert werden kann, um eine faire, ausgewogene und nachhaltige Bio-Technosphäre für alle Lebewesen zu schaffen.
Kriege, Energiekrisen und Umweltkatastrophen zeigen uns auf schmerzhafte Weise, wie die Abhängigkeit von Ressourcen verheerende und vielfältige Formen annehmen kann. Die Idee einer berechenbaren Welt erscheint angesichts ihrer Unüberschaubarkeit heute obsolet. Dabei war es gerade die Illusion menschlicher Allmacht, die industrialisierte Gesellschaften prägte und die den globalen Wandel vorantrieb. Mit Hilfe diverser künstlerischer Strategien versucht die präsentierte Ausstellung Prozesse und Beteiligte dieses Wandels sichtbar zu machen. Auf den ersten Blick nicht direkt miteinander verbunden, sind sie doch Teil eines soziopolitischen Gefüges, dessen Gesamtheit zu erfassen die Möglichkeiten unseres alltäglichen Verständnisses herausfordert. Dies macht uns bewusst, dass die Darstellung verschiedener Sichtweisen, der Austausch und die Diskussion und damit die Förderung und der Zusammenschluss von Menschen, die sich diesen relevanten Dynamiken widmen, äußerst wichtig sind.
In der Gruppenausstellung werden daher zum einen die fotografischen Arbeiten von Künstler*innen aus verschiedenen Ländern in Dialog gebracht. Zum anderen lädt die AFF Galerie das Publikum in seinem Rahmenprogramm dazu ein mit Aktivist*innen, Wissenschaftler*innen und Journalist*innen über die Frage was Kunst in Zeiten des Klimawandels bewirken kann, zu diskutieren.

About the guests:
Angelina Davydova, environmental and climate journalist, essayist, writer. Originally from St. Petersburg, Russia, now based in Berlin. Co-host of the podcast The Eurasian Climate Brief. Climate projects coordinator with n-ost e. V and Dialogue 4 Understanding e. V. Expert and co-editor of the Ukraine War Environmental Consequences Work Group. Observer of the UN Climate Negotiations (UNFCCC) since 2008. Counselor of the World Future Council.
Lena Fließbach
Freelance curator, writer and mentor for sustainability in the cultural sector. She develops exhibition concepts and interdisciplinary communication programs for various institutions such as Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart, Ocean. Now! or the Reinbeckhallen Foundation. She also works as a lecturer for Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle and the University of Potsdam. In 2020, she co-curated the exhibition project Zero Waste at the Museum der bildenden Künste Leipzig with Hannah Beck-Mannagetta. In 2022/2023 they curated the discourse series Zero Waste – Art and Knowledge for the Urania Berlin, combining experiences from science, art and the sustainability movement.

Angelina Davydova, Umwelt- und Klimajournalistin, Essayistin, Schriftstellerin. Ursprünglich aus St. Petersburg, Russland, jetzt in Berlin ansässig. Co-Moderatorin des Podcasts The Eurasian Climate Brief. Koordinatorin von Klimaprojekten bei n-ost e. V. und Dialogue 4 Understanding e. V. Expertin und Mitherausgeberin der Arbeitsgruppe Umweltfolgen des Ukraine-Krieges. Beobachter bei den UN-Klimaverhandlungen (UNFCCC) seit 2008. Ratsmitglied des World Future Council.
Lena Fließbach
Freiberufliche Kuratorin, Autorin und Mentorin für Nachhaltigkeit im Kulturbereich. Sie entwickelt Ausstellungskonzepte und interdisziplinäre Kommunikationsprogramme für verschiedene Institutionen wie den Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart, Ocean. Now! oder die Stiftung Reinbeckhallen. Außerdem arbeitet sie als Dozentin für die Burg Giebichenstein Hochschule für Kunst und Design Halle und die Universität Potsdam. Im Jahr 2020 kuratierte sie gemeinsam mit Hannah Beck-Mannagetta das Ausstellungsprojekt Zero Waste im Museum der bildenden Künste Leipzig. In den Jahren 2022/2023 kuratierten sie für die Urania Berlin die Diskursreihe Zero Waste Kunst und Wissen, die Erfahrungen aus Wissenschaft, Kunst und der Nachhaltigkeitsbewegung verbindet.
