Duo Exhibition
»Portraits and Chats of Weißensee«
Anja Teske & Bettina Cohnen
During the last two months the artists Anja Teske and Bettina Cohen have met quite different inhabitants of the Berlin borough of Weißensee where they work resp. live. During their talks about the life in that neighbourhood the artists made portrait studies. Anja Teske took her photos while moving and communicating with her vis-à-vis. Bettina Cohen captured the story in constructed images. These different approaches to the photographic portrait picture in their entirety the vivid image of a group of diverse people who are brought together by their common living environment. The photos are contrasted with text fragments and show how the inhabitants of Weißensee partly calmly and partly sceptically look at their neighbourhood and its change. Thus, the exhibition exemplarily demonstrates the actual condition of a Berlin neighbourhood.
