Tan Kadam
The skies of the famous painters William Turner and Caspar David Friedrich turned fiery red over 200 years ago, the result of a volcanic eruption and aerosols spreading worldwide. Since 2018, Germany and large parts of Europe have been experiencing a drought of unprecedented proportions, and climate change has become visible and real. Clouds are more than just beautiful sky formations, as ambassadors they announce the emerging weather, they can reflect the state of the air. The pollution in the cities is reflected in the clouds. Smog, industrial clouds from power plants sometimes darken residential areas all year round, radioactive clouds carry the radiation over large areas, contrails have a warming effect on our climate.
Tan Kadam has been photographing clouds from the roof of an apartment building in Berlin since 2019. His pictures are an invitation to stop, to marvel at the everyday with a view of the sky.
Tan Kadam’s photographs will be on display during July & August 2021 at three venues in Berlin:
